Built by eight organisations, led by the CST

TAMIS is the trusted European data space (opens in a new tab) Data space A decentralised infrastructure enabling trustworthy data exchanges based on commonly agreed rules. where audiovisual metadata stays intact, from production to broadcast to reuse. It is built by a consortium of French audiovisual organisations, led by the CST, as one of the trials of the European TEMS project. The legal entity that will run the data space is being set up.

Who builds it

The organisations building it

TAMIS is led by the CST, the French technical and standards body for cinema and audiovisual. Each organisation below takes part in the trial with what it already does: a broadcaster, an archive institute, an identifier registry, a collective management society, technology partners and an innovation cluster.

The data space itself will be run by a legal entity that does not exist yet. Until it does, the consortium holds the work, and this page will say so the day that changes.

Being built, and open while it is

In progress, not settled

How TAMIS is governed is being designed now, deliberately and in the open. It is meant to be as inclusive as the project it serves, and it carries the values TAMIS and TEMS stand for. Saying that it is still being built is not an admission: it is the reason your view matters today rather than once it is settled.

What it is today

A working design, discussed among the partners of the trial, and not yet a set of rules anyone could hand you. What is settled is the intent: an open data space whose rules are written with the organisations that will live under them.

How you take part

By telling us how you would want it to work, before it is fixed. How you weigh in on decisions

Tell us what would stop you. Not only what you would like, but the things that would make you walk away: a constraint you could not accept, a commitment you could not make. Those are what we want to hear early enough to design around them.

How it will evolve

It will change, and the site will say so as it does. What is published here is where the thinking stands, not a settled framework, and it will be replaced rather than quietly amended.

The rules are being written with the organisations that will live under them.

What it is

A pilot use case of TEMS

TAMIS is the audiovisual production trial of TEMS, the Trusted European Media Data Space. Funded by the European Union under the Digital Europe Programme, TEMS brings together over 40 organisations across Europe to build a common data space for the media sector, one of the European Common Data Spaces of the EU Data Strategy. Within it, TAMIS is the trial numbered five, "Collaboration in Production Chain".

How it is funded

Public money built it. It will not run on public money.

  1. 2021 to 2022 A French public scheme The first phase, which validated feasibility and the use cases, was carried out with support from the technical-support scheme of the CNC.
  2. Since 2023 The European Union TAMIS is funded as a trial of TEMS, under the Digital Europe Programme, Grant Agreement No 101123423. That is what pays for the work you can see on this site.
  3. Afterwards The participants A grant has an end. For the data space to outlive the project that built it, the organisations that use it will carry it: the model under consideration is a membership fee, scaled to the kind of participant. Nothing is settled, and no amount has been fixed.

From the pilot to opening it up

  1. 2021 The project starts A French consortium sets out to move audiovisual metadata without losing it. The first phase validates feasibility and the use cases.
  2. 2023 Into TEMS The consortium widens, and TAMIS joins the Trusted European Media Data Space as one of its trials.
  3. 2024 Trial five TEMS organises its work into trials. TAMIS takes the production chain, and builds the exchange framework.
  4. 2026 First public demonstration The data space is shown outside the consortium for the first time.
  5. Beyond Opening up Onboarding (opens in a new tab) Onboarding The process of admitting a participant: verifying its identity, issuing its credentials, setting up its connector. producers, broadcasters, registries and service providers across Europe.

Where the name comes from

A tamis is a sieve. The metaphor is the whole idea: keep the signal, let the noise through. What a work needs carried from one hand to the next is not everything anyone ever wrote about it, but the part that stays true and stays useful.

The project was first named, in French, Traçabilité dans l'Audiovisuel des Métadonnées de manière dIstribuée et Sécurisée, and an earlier English wording spoke of a Trusted Audiovisual Metadata Interconnection Space. Both are history, kept here because a name has one. The brand line, then and now, is AUDIOVISUAL METADATA SPACE.
