TAMIS is a decentralised metadata exchange initiative for the audiovisual and film industry. It tackles the sprawl of digital files and the information attached to them across the production chain, with a clear set of goals: wider adoption of unique identifiers such as ISAN (opens in a new tab) ISAN International Standard Audiovisual Number: the ISO identifier of an audiovisual work, which stays the same wherever the work travels. , easier aggregation of metadata across the sector, smoother ordering, delivery and tracking of files, and secure, reliable exchange between participants (opens in a new tab) Participant An organisation admitted to the data space, identified under its rules and able to exchange within it. .
Technically, the project builds on the decentralised SOLID approach, described as open, documented and simple to implement, together with the EBU-Core ontology for modelling metadata, favouring security and interoperability without any central point of control.
TAMIS is led by the CST, with early partners including MediADN, Lum::Invent and Startin'blox, and a steering committee representing distributors, producers and rights-management societies. Its first phase (October 2021 to July 2022) validated feasibility and use cases, with support from France's CNC technical-support scheme; the second phase moves to a proof of concept with an open-source codebase.
