TEMS in 2025: four thematic areas, eight trials, one data space

TEMS, the Trusted European Media Data Space

By 2025, the Trusted European Media Data Space (opens in a new tab) Data space A decentralised infrastructure enabling trustworthy data exchanges based on commonly agreed rules. (TEMS) had grown into a clear structure: eight trials grouped into four thematic areas, covering news and fact-checking; audience data, personalisation and revenue streams; collaboration in the production chain and rights management; and innovation with new media formats.

The rationale comes from the EU Data Strategy, under which media is one of fourteen European Common Data Spaces. As AI adoption accelerates, media organisations need better data management and data-use sovereignty, plus a shared, trusted data space to cooperate and compete. The European media industry it serves is vast, with around 200,000 companies and a million jobs across audiovisual, gaming and news.

TAMIS sits in the third area, "Collaboration in Production Chain". It improves how data flows through audiovisual production, keeping the metadata of a work intact and traceable from creation to reuse, the production-chain piece of the wider TEMS push for trusted, interoperable media data.
